Program Benefits: 

All Fellows will

• Receive up to $10,000/year for up to five years of participation in the program while working full-­‐ time in your current district

• Participate in lesson study teams supported by your district

• Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics (MAT) at FMU

• Attend Noyce seminars on mathematics education (quarterly in Years 1-­‐2, monthly thereafter)

• Attend local, regional, and national conferences (attendance and travel supported by grant)


Master Teaching Fellows will also

• Have the option of serving as BTSA providers, Noyce scholar mentors, or in other leadership positions

• Attend Mentoring Matters or other mentoring training

• Learn to facilitate professional development



Admission Requirements:

Noyce Teaching Fellows:

1) GPA of at least 3.0 overall as well as in mathematics coursework;

2) Currently completing mathematics single subject credential, or credential completed no more than 1 year prior to start of program.

3) Hired to teach mathematics in a participating district before starting the Noyce Fellowship program;

4) Teaching potential as evidenced in a minimum of three recommendation letters, at least one from a supervising teacher/university faculty or administrator;

5) Essay describing how you expect to benefit from the program and what you expect to contribute to the Noyce community of teachers and scholars;

6) Acceptance into the MAT program at FMU.

 

Master Teaching Fellows:

1) All of the above

• #2: valid single subject teaching credential in mathematics

• #4: Evidence of excellent math teaching as documented in three recommendation letters from site and/or district administrators

• #5 as above with additional information on why you feel you are potentially an excellent site-­‐ based leader;

2) At least three years of teaching experience;

3) Success in improving student achievement, as evidenced by a portfolio including components such as student work, videotaped instruction, a combination of short-­‐ and long-­‐term plans, and teacher-­‐created instructional materials; (a guide on how to develop a teaching portfolio can be found at the end of this application)

4) A master’s degree in education or related area, or equivalent;

5) Experience in a formal or informal leadership role at the school or district level is preferred.

3.     A copy of your Single Subject Mathematics Teaching Credential, or if you are currently in the credential program, a copy of your Program Plan

4.     Unofficial transcript(s) from your current institution of attendance (if currently in the credential program), post-baccalaureate transcripts, and any transcripts from past institutions you have attended that are relevant.  (Official transcripts may be requested at a future time)

5.     One page typed reference list. Include a letter of recommendation for each reference.

To maintain and renew a Noyce Teaching Fellowship, you must:

1.       Receive positive recommendations each quarter, regarding

a.       School site performance

b.      Active participation in seminars

c.       Performance in coursework

2.       Maintain satisfactory progress in the MAT program

3.       Maintain certificated employment in your current district

In addition, as a Master Teaching Fellow you must:

4.       Demonstrate increasing participation in a variety of appropriate leadership roles.

 

Signature and Agreement:

1.      Should I receive a Noyce Fellowship, I am obligated to fulfill the requirements of the program to the best of my ability.

2.      I give permission to FMU to release this information to the NSF, as required.

3.      I give FMU permission to publicize my Noyce scholarship award.

4.     I give my district permission to verify my employment for Noyce program purposes.

5.     I understand that my Noyce fellowship might affect other financial aid awards, and it is up to me to verify this by checking with the FMU Financial Aid office.

6.    I certify by my signature that I have read and understood the information in this application, agree with the terms of the program, and that all the information I have provided is complete and accurate.
